DILS in May: CONSIDERATIONS ON THE APPLICATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS AT SEA

In the possibly last event of this academic year, DILS is welcoming Dr Irini Papanicolopulu on 16 May 2014 Friday at  3 pm in Dalhousie Building Lecture Theater 2. Dr Papanicolopulu is a Lecturer in International Law at the University of Glasgow, School of Law, and a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy.

Dr  Papanicolopulu will present “The Same and Not the Same: Considerations on the Application of Human Rights at Sea”. She will discuss issues arising when human rights are applied at sea, with a view towards evaluating whether human rights at sea differ from those on land. In particular, she will focus on three dimensions: extraterritoriality, severability and the “marine exception”, which has been invoked by States to check the applicability of their human rights obligations to people who are at sea. A Q & A session will follow.

All warmly welcome. For the flyer please click.
